Hybrid Manufacturing Technologies has developed a new production method, Axiom, which blends 3D printing with injection molding. It allows the use of thermoplastics that are otherwise incompatible with 3D printing with improved surface finish and part integrity, eliminating layers.

The process, which stands for Automated eXtrusion Into an Open Mold, is enabled by the Ambit Xtrude 3D printing head used in a milling machine spindle.
